Adolescence is a precarious time in which a significant amount of deconstruction and reconstruction is taking place at the level of identity.
Youth and Mental Health Canada reports that by age 25 approximately 20% of Canadians will have developed a mental illness. Young people age 15-24 are more likely to experience mental illness and/or substance use disorders than any other age group. After accidents, suicide is the second leading cause of death for people age 15-24. Canada's youth suicide rate is the third highest in the industrialized world.
